THE SILVER STAR APPEAL was launched in
January 2007. It
campaigns for diabetes awareness.
Besides the Diabetes
Centres Silver Star provides free tests for diabetes
to the public (and there will be two more centres - in
Manchester and London), Silver Star is running a mobile
Diabetes Unit. The
Unit’s main roles are to carry out important diabetes
testing in the community and to promote culturally sensitive
healthcare, with particular regard to the high prevalence of
diabetes amongst south Asian community in the major towns
and cities of Britain.
The Silver Star
runs a Mobile Diabetes Assessment Unit, which provides
free tests for all those who
may wish to have one and promotes culturally sensitive
healthcare. The Unit travels to local community centres,
schools, work places and other organisations.
The van is equipped with a bed, sink and entrance for
disabled people. We measure the patient´s weight, height,
waist and finally the glucose level.
To find out where the Unit has
been so far, visit our Events

The Manjit Kaur Chawla, MKC TRUST was
launched at London by Chawla Family in memory of Mr APS
Chawla’s wife, who lost her life to breast cancer at a very
early age followed by the launching of MKC ROKO CANCER
CHARITABLE TRUST in India. The core vision behind the trust
is to bring awareness of breast cancer and to provide early
detection, leading to treatment wherever possible.
